Regina, March 27, 2007 - The Coalition for the Promotion of the French Language and the Francophone Culture in Saskatchewan is pleased to announce that Kellie Garrett has accepted to serve as its Honorary President.Garrett, Senior Vice-President of Strategy, Knowledge and Reputation at Farm Credit Canada (FCC), has been the corporation's champion of official languages at the National Champions Committee (deputy minister level.) She is passionate about the importance of the French language and francophone culture in Canada.
"We're pleased to have the support of such an accomplished bilingual speaker and communicator," said Karen Pozniak, Canadian Parents for French-Saskatchewan Executive Director and member of the Coalition. "Kellie's personal experience of the challenges of learning a second language and her steadfast belief in the rewards make her a natural choice as Honorary President of our coalition."
Garrett is an Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) with a Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University as well as a graduate of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program. Originally from Montreal, she has called Saskatchewan home since joining FCC in 1994.
In addition to serving as Honorary President of the Coalition, Garrett serves on several boards. She is Chair of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Research Foundation and Vice-Chair of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation. Garrett also counsels parents who receive autism diagnoses.
The Coalition for the Promotion of the French Language and Francophone Culture in Saskatchewan is a coalition of stakeholders from government, francophone associations, parent groups and businesses dedicated to promoting the French language and francophone culture in Saskatchewan. The Coalition's goals include raising awareness of the opportunities for Saskatchewan children to learn and use French and increasing the visibility of Francophone culture throughout the province.
