The Institut français of the University of Regina provides a wide variety of courses and training for many target audiences based on their interests and objectives. To facilitate access to learning, these training opportunities may be offered outside of Regina, depending on the demand and number of registrations. Distance education courses are also available.  

Most of the courses are offered on a part-time basis, in the Fall, Winter and Summer sessions.

Below is a list of the various non-credit courses and programs available:

 

Oral Communication (beginner, intermediate and advanced)

These courses are designed for anyone who wishes to speak French and are offered to individuals age 18 and older. Participants will develop listening and speaking skills for practical, everyday conversation.

 

Tutoring

The Institut français provides tutoring services by qualified personnel to adults from the general public and to grades 1-12 students from French schools as well as from French immersion and Core French programs. At the Institut français, you have access to cultural resources (magazines, movies, CDs, etc.) and to activities that foster the use and promotion of French. The Institut français also provides an opportunity to experience the francophone world of both here and elsewhere. Based on the demand, tutoring services may be provided in different regions around the province; the Institut français will ensure a qualified individual is hired.

 

Le plaisir de parler

For advanced students. The objective of this course is to enhance oral communication in French using students' interests, such as current events, hobbies, books, etc. Students must be 18 years or older.

 

Grammar in Context

For advanced students. This course is intended to improve written expression in French through essays, reports, various types of letters, etc. For all ages!

 

Pour l'amour du français

Computer-based self-study program for learners of French as a second language consisting of ½ hour weekly telephone exchanges and feed back with a tutor. A 15‑unit program based on everyday language and real life situations. Very practical for independent learning.

 

Retire in Style! Learn French!

Oral communication course designed for and adapted to the participant's needs. (age 55 and over). Learning French... a way to take your mind off things! No exams, no assignments!

 

French in the Workplace/Programme de français langue seconde (PFL2)

Offered in partnership with the Canada School of Public Service, this program is designed to enable the learner to interact functionally in French in a professional setting and reach a Level B of proficiency. This program consists of 40 language training objectives.

 

Summer Immersion Program

Each summer, the Institut français offers two weeks of intensive French-language training. Participants have the choice to attend for one week or two. The program aims to develop oral skills and to have participants experience a wonderful time in French.
